Abingdon Road Water Transmission Main

JMT prepared the design for the Abingdon Road 30-inch water transmission main along Abingdon Road to the Abingdon Water Treatment Plant. This project provided a major water transmission enhancement to Harford County's Department of Public Works water distribution system, increasing the capacity of treated water from the Abingdon Water Treatment Plant to the second zone of the County's water distribution system. Project Specifics include:

  • Alignment study and construction documents for approximately 2,400 linear feet of 30-inch diameter water main
  • Continuous service during construction
  • The pipeline alignment was contained within the existing road right-of-way
  • Coordination and meetings with regulatory agencies
  • Research of current utility drawings
  • Permitting (utility permit, grading and sediment control, stormwater management waiver, MDE construction permit, etc.)
  • Test pits and soil borings
  • Cost estimating
  • Detailed specification preparation
  • Thrust restraint design
  • Design to avoid utility conflicts (gas, overhead and buried electric, water service connections, water service main)
  • Special construction considerations including working hour restrictions to maintain traffic flow
