JMT is currently working with Baltimore County's Office of Information Technology (OIT) to provide field data verification of its Facilities geodatabase. Data accuracy is mission critical, as it will support the County's 911 landline and wireless system.
Thorough project planning led to the development of a Field Verification Application, which was tested extensively prior to field deployment. With the application ready, we divided the County into field verification delivery areas. In order to allow multiple technicians to edit the same geodatabase in a disconnected environment, a checkin/checkout process was implemented which allows data edits to be made independently, with the ability to reconcile each database to the master geodatabase.
Before undertaking the full county-wide verification assignment, JMT completed a pilot project on a representative sample of the entire geodatabase. This allowed us to validate the application and to test the quality control/revision process, and to make final adjustments to both as necessary. Our quality control procedures, performed continually, include post-processing tasks using ArcGIS software, database queries and verifications, as well as visual inspection.
