Data gathering including traffic counts, travel time runs, review of the geometrics of the initial study area and determination of other proposed developments.
Contact with various other NFL stadiums to determine their characteristics related to mode split, auto occupancy and percentage of no-shows.
Coordination with WMATA (bus), MTA (bus), and MARC (rail) to determine possible transit percentage for proposed stadium sites. Trip generation/distribution/ modal choice and trip assignments were developed for the Redskins based on a typical Sunday game.
Four alternatives were developed for the level of roadway improvements necessary based upon the traffic volume and level of congestion associated with the event.
Cost estimates were prepared for the alternatives. Level of service analysis and travel times were also calculated using CORSIM, and dump times associated with a stadium event were evaluated.
Finally, JMT prepared maintenance of traffic plans, signing and pavement marking plans for the modifications to MD 202 and MD 214 interchanges with the Capital Beltway for what is now known as FedEx Field.
Since the stadium opened, JMT has consistently monitored game day operations each football season to fine-tune traffic flow and to determine the traffic impacts of opening the I-95/Arena Drive ramps on all weekends due to continuing redevelopment in the area.
