JMT designed the replacement of the mechanical and electrical components associated with the cantilevered overhead hangar doors for Hangar Nos. 1-6 at Martin State Airport. Some of the more interesting elements of this design effort were:
The design was unique in that the doors were initially constructed in 1939, requiring significant research into the door operation and available drive mechanisms to operate the doors.
Due to the age of the existing doors and the drive mechanism, lead-based paint was present and was required to be abated prior to the renovations.
JMT coordinated with the Hazardous Materials subconsultant to initiate the investigation and prepare the bidding documents for the removal of the lead paint.
JMT recommended and developed a two-part procurement process to assure that the construction contractor understood and could meet the needs of the specialty nature of the door system.
