I-4 Structural Widenings

As part of a design/build team, JMT prepared bridge plans, specifications and estimates for the reconstruction and widening of I-4 in Orlando. The Design/Build Project Delivery method entailed submittal and approval of plans as each bridge unit (foundation, substructure, and superstructure) was completed.

  • JMT was responsible for the design of the widening of four dual prestressed concrete bridges and the widening of a single steel girder bridge, on the mainline of I-4.
  • These bridges cross Michigan Avenue, Kaley Avenue, Gore Street, Division Street and South Street in Orlando.
  •  Widening of the I-4 dual bridges was accomplished using prestressed concrete I-beams and steel girders.
  • JMT also provided services for bridge deck joint repair as well as deck repair and rehabilitation.
  • Bridge construction sequencing was coordinated with the roadway maintenance of traffic.
  • Project milestones were met within the fast-track schedule of seven months from design initiation to final approval of all construction plans.
