I-95/I-495/I-295 Interchange

 

  

JMT recently designed the new $250 million I-95/I-495/I-295 interchange which is being constructed as part of the Woodrow Wilson Bridge Replacement Mega Project. This major improvement will significantly alleviate congestion and improve safety in the Washington, D.C. area.  Highlights of the improvements include:

  • Widening I-95/I-495 from 6 to 12 local/express lanes
  • Complex Maintenance of Traffic for ADT's of 200,000 vpd
  • 6 projects were advertised in 4 construction contracts. Bids came in $5 million under budget.
  • Eight I-95 Mainline Bridges and sixteen ramp bridges including 3 continuous multi-span curved steel bridges over 1400' long
  • 41 retaining walls
  • 3 Pedestrian Bridges and Rosalie Island Deckover structure
  • Mitigation of Environmental and ROW concerns 
  • Design for accommodation of future transit vehicles
  • Coordination with $1 billion development of National Harbor
