NSA Norfolk Parking and Pedestrian Study

Naval Support Activity (NSA) Norfolk, an 800-acre site owned by the U.S. Navy, is the headquarters of several military commands and support facilities.  Naval Facilities Engineering Command requested that we complete a study to determine short, intermediate and long-term recommendations that would address the NSA's parking and pedestrian needs.  The project includes tasks including:

  • classifying all parking spaces, by type and use
  • developing an inventory of current parking inventory by type and use
  • forecasting future parking requirements based on existing and proposed building usages
  • recommending improvements to maximize parking layouts and minimize safety risks
  • evaluating pedestrian footway and crosswalk locations and providing recommendations for construction of new footways and crosswalks
  • providing condition survey of all sidewalks and crosswalks including repair priorities and costs
  • providing planning level condition survey of parking lot pavements
